WBH Library Volunteer Merry Lathrop Honored with CASDA Friends of Education Award

Congratulations to WBH Library Volunteer Merry Lathrop who will be honored with the Capital Area School Development Association (CASDA) Friends of Education Award! CASDA presents this award to recognize the selfless contributions of individuals who dedicate themselves to serving students and enriching their school communities.

Merry Lathrop has been a dedicated and valued volunteer in the Walter B. Howard Elementary School library for over two decades. Merry is known for “exceptional reliability” and performs a wide range of library duties including cataloging books, shelving, reorganizing shelves, creating eye-catching displays, conducting inventory, assisting students in finding books that spark their interest, and facilitating book exchanges with classes.

WBH Library Media Specialist David Hawkins wrote in his nomination letter, “Despite the ever-evolving nature of the library program, Merry remains adaptable and adjusts her schedule each year to best support the needs of the young library class and enhance the overall appearance of the library. Her unwavering commitment and flexibility set her apart from other volunteers and make her an invaluable asset to the school community.”

Mrs. Lathrop will be awarded at the CASDA Annual Awards and Friends of Education Celebration on Thursday, April 20th at Franklin Terrace in Troy, NY.
