Update on WBH Closure

We would like to share the following message from Superintendent Andrew Kourt regarding Friday’s closure of WBH:

As you know, WBH was closed Friday, October 2 out of an abundance of caution after there was an asbestos disturbance in a cleaning closet. The area was sealed and isolated, and we brought in an environmental contractor to conduct air quality testing and assess the situation.

Air quality testing was completed by Friday afternoon. The results indicate the building is safe for students and staff to return. Based on this information, we will be reopening WBH on Monday.

Per regulations, we have contacted the Department of Labor to approve a project for the cleanup and abatement process. We expect this work to be completed over Columbus Day weekend. Until then, the area in immediate vicinity of the cleaning closet has been properly isolated as a precaution.

I would like to thank our staff for being ready to quickly pivot to remote learning for the day on Friday, and our families for their understanding at the last minute change in plans. The health and safety of our students is always our first priority and we thank you for entrusting your children into our care.

The building will remain closed until Monday morning. Please do not come in over the weekend.

Please do not hesitate to contact my office if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
Andrew Kourt
Superintendent
