Students learn about social media consequences

Students attend social media assemblyOn Monday, December 8, students at New Lebanon High School attended an assembly about social media. The focus of the presentation was on the ways college admission offices, employers and others use social media to determine a person’s character.

Mildred Elley Community Outreach Representative Matthew Martin talked to students about how the things students post on their social media accounts can impact their ability to get into a college program, or remain in a program.

He discussed the ways in which social media is used by employers to screen candidates and how certain actions can actually lead to job termination.

“We want them to think about the reason they are posting something every time they do it,” said School Counselor Meghan Pepe. “While you might be trying to show your friends you’re having a good time, someone might see it as irresponsible behavior.”
