The 8th grade Home and Careers class launched their career exploration unit by inviting guest speakers to talk with students about their jobs. The class was run similar to ‘speed dating’ – the students were in small groups and met with each guest for a few minutes to talk about their jobs and ask questions before being directed to move onto the next group.
Many of the speakers were people the students see on a regular basis, that either have jobs that entail a lot more than what students see, or they have other jobs that they do outside of the school day. In addition, some alumni shared success stories of their careers and college experiences as well.
