Students discover music through their peers

On October 22, New Lebanon first grade students traveled to the historic Proctor’s Theater in Schenectady to watch the Empire State Youth Orchestra perform the Young People’s Concert.

The New Lebanon students – along with teachers and approximately 1500 other students – came to Proctor’s where they were entertained and inspired by the music performed by young musicians, just slightly older than themselves.

Students learn about different instrument families and gained an enhanced understanding of the stories behind the music from commentary by WRGB’s Liz Bishop and theatrical performances.

The concert featured music by famous American composers as well as original artwork created by local high school students. The paintings were projected on a large screen during the orchestral performance for a vibrant and dramatic representation of symphonic music through the visual arts.
