Author John Farrell Visits WBH

Award winning songwriter, author and peace educator John Farrell visited Walter B. Howard Elementary School on March 25.

During his visit he spoke to all students at two sessions. He first spoke with Kindergarten through third grade students about “Respect and Understanding: Positive Attitudes” followed by a session with students in grades 4-6 about “Global Awareness and Appreciation: Building Bridges.”

Farrell spoke of his mission to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, this June. He said he and a Bridges of Peace and Hope team will be making the climb and when they reach the summit at 19,340 feet the team will unveil a banner expressing the beliefs, cares, and hopes of students and teachers around the world. His hope is to get 1,934 responses. The climb will also raise money to help students and teachers at Mukwashi Trust School in Zambia.

Farrell’s visit was funded through a grant from the New Lebanon Arts and Humanities Fund. Frank Healy, David Hawkins and James Hosley collaborated on the grant process.
