A Message from the Superintendent – Alleged National School Violence Threat

December 16, 2021

We are writing to make you aware of an unspecified generalized threat about school violence at schools across the country tomorrow (Friday, December 17). This threat did not originate locally but has been screen captured and shared across our region and country. Our local BOCES (Questar III) referred it to law enforcement in Rensselaer, Columbia and Greene counties and continue to work with authorities on any next steps they may recommend.

Please speak with your children about the critical importance of sharing any information that they might have about:
      • any potential threats to our students, staff, or schools
      • any troubling behaviors displayed by their friends or classmates or
      • observations about anything that does not seem right in school

The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. All threats of violence, even if made in jest, will be taken seriously and they may result in law enforcement becoming involved. We are in contact with our local sheriff’s office and NY State Troopers. The district will continue to have our full time school resource Deputy on campus.

Should you receive any information about this that you believe requires immediate action, please call 911 to report it. If you have information that you believe we should be aware of, please contact your child’s building principal or me as soon as possible. In the meantime, we will continue to keep you updated with any information that we receive.

Sincerely,

Andrew Kourt
