BNL Soccer Tournament Opening Round Recap

After a long and grueling hiatus, the BNL Soccer Tournament was kicked off in full swing last night as the opening round of girls play commenced. The BNL Girls Varsity soccer team advanced to the championship game after an impressive 3-0 win over Taconic Hills, earning the program’s first shutout in the process. After an even back and forth for the first fifteen minutes, BNL began to apply more offensive pressure, eventually scoring an opening goal through Rilynn Jones after about twenty minutes. Rilynn would add to her tally later in the first half after capitalizing on a Taconic Hills defensive error. The girls stood strong throughout the entire game, and put the game beyond reach midway through the second half, after Rilynn Jones sent in a threading cross to find Lora Acquario open in the eighteen yard box. Lora slotted home the third and final goal, scoring her first career varsity goal in the process. The BNL defense had an outstanding match, shutting down the Taconic Hills offense and quickly transitioning and unleashing the midfield switch. Becca Madsen earned her first career varsity shutout as BNL stood strong in the final minutes. The girls will play Amsterdam in the championship final, 5:00 on Saturday. See you there!
