The Berlin-New Lebanon Boys Modified soccer team defeated Hoosick Falls by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday October 5th. Gabe Smith started in goal and made several key saves. Offensive pressure from BNL kept Hoosick Falls on a defensive footing for much of the game. Leading off in scoring was Markell Popov with a 1st quarter goal assisted by Tyler Webster. Following a BNL defensive rotation, Hoosick Falls managed to catch them off guard to tie the game at 1-1 late in the 2nd quarter.

After a few half-time adjustments, the BNL boys managed to play a much tighter defensive game only allowing a handful of shots by Hoosick Falls the rest of the way.

The 3rd quarter was largely uneventful until a goal by Jack Hart, with less than 5 seconds left in the quarter, lifted BNL to 2-1 lead. Assisting on the goal was Markell Popov. As the game progressed into the 4th quarter, BNL slowed the pace of play down, utilizing quality passing, ball control, and strong overlapping defense. Midway through the final quarter, Jack Mace assisted with a set up by Tyler Webster, found an angle on the right wing, and managed to net BNL’s third goal of the game.
