BNL Coach Recap: Boys Modified Basketball vs Cambridge

BNL Nearly Pulls Off Comeback vs Cambridge
On January 31st, the BNL Modified Boys basketball team played competitively into the final seconds against Cambridge, but ultimately fell just short, losing by a score of 31 to 28.
BNL struggled with mistakes and missed opportunities during the first two quarters, falling behind 24 to 12 by halftime. However, BNL made a few key adjustments and managed to play a stifling defense in the 2nd half, allowing just seven more points to Cambridge the rest of the way while adding 16 of their own.
Despite the opening half deficit, BNL brought themselves back to within 1-point of Cambridge as the clock ticked down to the final minute. Unfortunately, a missed fast break chance and a costly turnover in the offensive zone resulted in Cambridge sealing away the game.
Leading BNL in scoring was Jeramiah Gates with 12 points followed by Jordan Riccardi with 6. Also adding points for BNL was Zeke Colin (3), John Beaudry (2), Alexzander Esposito (2) Brandon Schongar (2), and Roman Capozzi (1).
Multiple players showed off their improving skills creating space and showing excellent ball movement and passing including Jack Healy, Dustin Andrew, Myren Losaw, Ryan McGibbon, Andrew Crimmell, and Anthony Wood. Defense played a critical role in the second half, and this was demonstrated with great rebounding by Damien Liebenow and steals by multiple players.
“I understand the frustration felt by these players over the ultimate outcome of the game, but they have nothing to hang their heads about after this one. They came back fired up and ready to play in the 2nd half. They really pushed themselves to play as a team and the energy from the team was electric as they clawed their way back. To see the team finally start to use the offensive and defensive concepts they have been practicing to get themselves back in the game was great and it very nearly paid off. There are only a few more games left, but hopefully they can continue to trend positively the rest of the way.”
