WBH March Update

Dear Families,

I hope you are staying warm this March.  Remember spring is just around the corner.  We have been incredibly busy here at WBH.  I want to take this time to share with you some happenings and updates around our school community…

It was great to see so many children and their families at our recent school dance.  The gym and cafeteria were decorated, everyone was dressed to impress, the music was fantastic, the photo both was busy as ever, and the student dance moves were amazing.  A big thank you goes out to our PTA for their hard work and dedication.  We take great pride in providing a monthly after school event for our children and their families.  We hope you can join us for our Easter Egg hunt on Saturday, April 8th at 1pm in our school yard.

The New York State ELA and Math Assessments for grades 3-6 are right around the corner.  The ELA testing will take place on Tuesday, March 28th – March 30th and the math assessment is May 2nd – May 4th.  Testing will start each morning at 8:45am.  As a school community we always tell our students to try their very best.  Even though some children may find a couple questions challenging, we ask every child to believe in themselves and try.   Our teachers have been implementing a new writing program called the Units of Study in writing.  Some teachers are also transitioning to a program called reading workshop.  These state assessments will help us assess our new programs.  Many parents have asked, what they could do to make sure their child is prepared for the assessments?  We encourage families to make sure their child gets a good night’s sleep before the assessment, eats a healthy breakfast, and to encourage them to try their very best!  Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions regarding the upcoming state testing.

A big thank you goes out Tylea Gebbie, David Hawkins, and our resource officer, Deputy Hyson for presenting an Internet Safety presentation to interested parents.  Children are using the Internet now more than ever.  It is important to discuss Internet safety with your child and set some guidelines at home.  If you have any questions regarding Internet Safety do not hesitate to contact our school psychologist, Tylea Gebbie or myself at any time.

I truly appreciate each of your support and dedication to your child’s education.  Please know that I am here to ensure each child has what he or she needs to learn and be successful.  Please do not hesitate to call or contact me with any questions.

Fondly,

Andrew Kourt
WBH Principal
