During an assembly on Thursday, May 5, high school students heard personal stories of opioid addiction from three individuals from the Hudson Chapter of Young People in Recovery (YPR).

Dr. William Murphy from Chatham Family Care Center introduced Kaytlin Coon, David Lyon and Andrew Ball, who spoke to students about the life altering consequences of drug abuse and their journey to recovery.

“Unfortunately, the New Lebanon community has not been immune to the national epidemic of increased opioid use in recent years.  I am grateful to have had the ability to access speakers who have through their recovery process sought to positively impact the lives of others.  Our students were deeply impacted by hearing from people whose lives were affected by drugs, along with a professional who can discuss the science of addiction,” said Principal Matthew Klafehn. “Students asked many questions, and we hope they walked away with information they can reflect on now, and throughout their adult lives.”
