The New Lebanon Central School District is thrilled to announce Val Synakowski as the new Jr/Sr High School Assistant Principal and Athletic Director.
For the past 16 years, Ms. Synakowski has served as a music teacher at New Lebanon Jr./Sr. High School. In that role, she has helped build an impressive music department and choral program while also developing deep relationships with students and staff in the school community, most of whom affectionately call her “Syn.”
Principal Matthew Klafehn highlighted Synakowski’s contributions to the district, particularly the lasting impact she has had on the school’s choral program:
“During her time at New Lebanon, Val has created a powerhouse of a choral program that has engaged nearly the entirety of the student body and has captured the hearts of our community. While we will certainly miss her in this capacity, we are grateful for the opportunity to have Val in a leadership role, where she will undoubtedly continue to positively influence the lives of our students and partner well with our families.”
School Superintendent Christopher Harper added:
“Val has done an extraordinary job building and leading our choral program. She has shown an incredible ability to connect with students, build strong relationships, and create something that has become such an important part of our school community. We have every confidence that she will bring that same passion, dedication, and commitment to her new role as Assistant Principal and Athletic Director. We are incredibly fortunate to have her continuing to serve our students and our community in this new capacity.”
Synakowski began her teaching career at Gloversville Middle School 22 years ago before finding her way to New Lebanon Jr./Sr. High School in 2010.
“It has never been lost on me just how special New Lebanon is. My years with the district and the relationships I’ve built along the way have been such a meaningful part of my time here. I am both honored and grateful for the opportunity to continue supporting our students and families in this new role. I look forward to serving our community, growing as a leader, and learning alongside the people who make New Lebanon such a special place.”
Synakowski earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of Saint Rose and a master’s degree from Boston University. She is currently completing a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership at SUNY Cortland. She and her family reside in Albany, NY.
Synakowski succeeds Corey Brown, who recently accepted a role outside of the district. She will begin working in the role immediately, for the start of the 2026-2027 school year. Details on a replacement in the music department will be shared in coming weeks.
