Agency 101: Navigating Adult Services

Tuesday, July 27, 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Join us for a general overview of primary adult services. Participants will learn to recognize the eight components of self-determination and will better understand how to promote self-determination throughout the transition planning process. 

Participants will learn about the various adult service agencies in NYS and will better understand the services provided by each, as well as their related eligibility, referral, and application process.

EI to CPSE Transition for  Families

Tuesday August 3, 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

This workshop will guide parents and family members through the Early Intervention (El) to Preschool Special Education transition in New York State and takes a detailed look at the similarities and differences between the EI program and Preschool Special Education program. 

Parents and family members will learn to: 

  • identify the important steps in the process; and
  • understand the changes to expect and critical decisions to be made.

Participants will be well prepared for their child’s upcoming transition and will have a better understanding of their role in the process.

Early Intervention to Preschool Transition

Monday, August 9, 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

(For Professionals/CPSE Chairpersons only)

This presentation will guide CPSE Chairpersons through the process of transitioning children from the Early Intervention Program to the Committee on Preschool Special Education. 

Participants will examine the differences between Early Intervention and Preschool Special Education services and the responsibilities of the CPSE Chair in the transition process.

Understanding the IEP for Families

Tuesday, August 9, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

This presentation provides families/parents and caregivers an overview of the process for developing an Individual Education Program (IEP) using a collaborative approach. The training provides a review of the areas of the IEP and the information that a parent, family and/or caregiver can share with the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) or Committee on Special Education (CSE) regarding their child’s performance and disability related needs. 

Families will come away from this training with an understanding of the components of and IEP and the role that the parent has in its development.
