Students & Staff Hosted Events to Honor Veterans

New Lebanon Jr. & Sr. High School was proud to honor veterans in several events this week including the annual Memorial Day Assembly & Community Brunch.

The Student Leadership Council placed American flags on the graves of community veterans, accompanied by Principal Klafehn, Mrs. Bienes, and Mr. Kanofsky. Special thanks to Ed Godfroy and Brian Sedgwick who arranged this meaningful opportunity.

On Thursday, veterans joined students and staff at a very special assembly program featuring the presentation of colors, thoughtful speeches by local veterans including guest speaker Wood Vaspra (Commander of the American Legion Post 68), veteran recognition presentation, and musical performances by the school choir and band.

Following the assembly, veterans were invited to join other members of the school and local community in the library for an impressive brunch spread hosted by the Just Food club led by Britt Buckenroth.

Finally, Mr. Kanofsky invited all attendees to visit a “World War II Museum” in his classroom. Exhibits were created by students during a World War II History elective class. Each student’s work showcased research, creativity, and a deep respect for the subject matter.
