The New Lebanon Central School District Backpack Program provides food for students over weekends and other times when school breakfast and lunch are not available. It is designed to meet the needs of food insecure families by providing them with child-friendly, non-perishable, easy-to-prepare meals. School staff and volunteers pack bags weekly and discreetly distribute them to participating students.
We have been providing food-filled backpacks for students since 2012, beginning with a grant and continuing as a self-sustaining project. With the help of donations, this program has become a great success and continues to make a difference. Students look forward to receiving backpacks filled with food every Friday so they have meals for the weekend.
