Planning is currently underway for New Lebanon CSD’s 2021 graduation ceremony, which will follow COVID-19 guidance outlined by the State of New York. This will be an in-person/outdoor ceremony honoring the achievements of the Class of 2021.

The graduation will take place on Friday, June 25 at 6:00 p.m. at Walter B. Howard Elementary School, where the large campus will allow for increased parking and vehicle access. Attendees should arrive by 5:30 p.m. to provide ample time for parking; the commencement will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. In the event that rain is forecasted, the rain date will be Saturday, June 26 at 10:30 a.m. (weather-related decisions will be made on Wednesday, June 23). Restrooms will not be available during the event.

The ceremony will take place on the Walter B. Howard bus circle and grass island. Students will be seated in the center lawn, socially distanced, so that they can be with their class throughout the graduation exercises. Families will be parked around the inner-circle for viewing. There will be opportunities for families to take pictures when a child is receiving a scholarship or diploma.

It is important that attendees abide by the following guidelines in order for the event to remain in compliance with state regulations:

  • Only the graduate and six designated persons from each family are permitted to be outside of their vehicles during the ceremony (the event is limited to 200 attendees overall)
  • All other guests must remain in their vehicle (the ceremony will be broadcast on 87.9 FM and livestreamed on the District Facebook page as well)
  • Graduates are limited to one vehicle in the bus circle unless accommodations have been granted for unique situations
  • Masks must be worn by all parties when outside of their vehicles

Students are encouraged to decorate their cars with black and orange combined with a personal flair they wish to celebrate. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the graduate recessional will consist of a parade led by the Lebanon Valley Protective Association and neighboring Fire District vehicles that will lead the graduates in their cars from Walter B. Howard Elementary School to the New Lebanon Jr./Sr. High School. Community members will be invited to park their cars along Route 20/22 to cheer on the graduates.

Please follow the lead of parking attendants and staff directing traffic. At the close of the ceremony, wait to be directed prior to maneuvering vehicles out of the traffic circle. Cars will be routed towards the bus garage in order to line up for the post-graduation parade en route to the high school.
