New Lebanon Central School District Announces Valedictorian & Salutatorian

The New Lebanon Central School District is pleased to announce brothers Benjamin A. Chaput and Forest Chaput as the Class of 22’ valedictorian and salutatorian.

“The Chaput boys have been outstanding kids throughout their time at New Lebanon.  In addition to being academic, they are incredibly personable and have worked to immerse themselves in nearly everything that the school has to offer. Benjamin A. Chaput is this year’s valedictorian with a GPA of 101.3%. He will be graduating with a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation, Honors, and an Annotation of Mastery in Science and Math. Throughout his high school career, he has participated in varsity soccer, baseball, and volleyball, been a member of the Student Leadership Council, and has been an active member of the New Lebanon Jr./Sr. High School music program. He is a member of the choir, and trumpet player in the band, and jazz band where he was chosen to play for the All-County Band. Ben has received several leadership and academic awards including the Rensselaer Medal Award Scholarship to RPI, Bauch and Lomb Science Award Scholarship to the University of Rochester, HOBY Leadership Award, DAR Good Citizens Award-Columbia County, Northeastern United States, and he was inducted into the Honor Society of Scouting, Order of the Arrow. Outside of school Ben is a Boy Scout and participates in church activities at North Chatham United Methodist Church.

In the fall Ben will be attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY where he will be majoring in Aerospace Engineering.

Forest Chaput is this year’s salutatorian with a GPA of 99.73%. He will be graduating with a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Honors, and an Annotation of Mastery in Science. During his time at New Lebanon Jr./Sr. High School he has played varsity soccer, baseball, and volleyball. He was voted the Most Defensive Player Award for varsity volleyball. Forest plays the bass clarinet, clarinet, and tenor saxophone in the Jr./Sr. High School band and was chosen to perform with the All-County Band. He has received several academic awards including the F. Fowler Root Scholarship from Riders Mills Historical Association, Xerox Innovation and Technology Award, Gallert Cornell Admission Invitation and Honor Camper Award Rotary Scout Reservation. In 2017 he won multiple awards at the Future City Competition including Best Public Transportation Award, Best Model Design Award, and Best Computer Design Award. Outside of school Forest has completed 750 hours of community services through the Boy Scouts of America.

In the fall Forest will attend SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Utica, NY where he will be majoring in Computer Science.
