New Lebanon Central School District Announces 2023 Valedictorian & Salutatorian

Lindsay Tompkins, Class of 2023 Valedictorian

Congratulations to Lindsay Tompkins of East Nassau for being named New Lebanon CSD Class of 2023 Valedictorian.

Lindsay is graduating in June with an Advanced Regents Diploma with honors and will be joining the Army Reserves after graduation. In January she will be attending Western New England University to major in Neuroscience.

During her time at New Lebanon Jr./Sr. High School Lindsay has taken a number of university-level courses including PreCalc, US History, English, Statistics, and Biology, and has been on the high honor roll throughout her school career.
She is the recipient of the HOBY Leadership Award and the CASDA 37th Annual Capital Region Students and Teachers Who Make a Difference award. She has participated in the Future City Competition where she placed first in regionals, and fourth in national competition.

Outside of her academic achievements, she has been an integral part of the student life at the New Lebanon Jr./Sr. High School. She serves as Vice President of the Student Leadership Council and is a member of the senior choir, and 2-Year Delay Rock Band. As a member of the travel club, she has gone to Ireland, England, France, Spain, and Italy.

“Lindsay is a “one of a kind” type of kid,” said Jr./Sr. High School choir teacher Valene Synakowski.
“She’s a role model and fine example for her peers, and while her academic aptitude clearly speaks for itself, her greatest quality lies within her character. This kiddo is top-tier.”

Lindsay has also competed for New Lebanon athletics. She was team captain of the soccer team in 2019 & 2021 and was on the track and field team.

Congratulations to Olivia Smith of East Nassau for being named New Lebanon CSD Class of 2023 Salutatorian.

Olivia is graduating in June with an Advanced Regents Diploma with honors and is enrolled in the Hudson Valley Community College Construction Technology associate degree program.

During her junior and senior years, Olivia split her time between the Jr./Sr. High School and the Robert H. Gibson Technical School in Troy, where she is enrolled in the Construction Technology program at Questar III BOCES. During her time at Questar III she earned her OSHA 10 Certification in Construction and received the Most Improved Student in Construction award.

Olivia has also been a recipient of the Triple “C” Award, William’s College Book Award, The F. Fowler Root Scholarship from Riders Mills Historical Association, and given The Honor of Student Sage by Russell Sage College.

“Olivia is an individual of such authenticity – to have the opportunity to work so closely with her throughout her time at New Lebanon has been an absolute pleasure”, said Jr./Sr. High School Psychologist Patricia White who has been a mentor to Olivia throughout her time at New Lebanon.

“Olivia is compassionate, absolutely hilarious, extremely dependable, and ever-so diligent – both as a student and a friend.”

Olivia has proven herself a hard worker during her time at New Lebanon. She received the Most Improved at P.E. Award, the Most Improved at English 11 Award, and has been on the High Honor Roll throughout her school career.

Outside of the classroom she is an active member of the senior choir and played French Horn and Trumpet for the school band, and 2-Year Delay Rock Band. She is also a Yoga Club, Manga Club, and Just Food Club member.

“She genuinely cares for others and provides an empathetic ear to all situations and people that she encounters. I am so incredibly proud of Olivia and am certain she will accomplish great things in the future,” said White.
