Letter from Supt. Kourt Regarding School Closings

Dear Families,

Today at 8:15 a.m. we received a call that a staff member tested positive for COVID-19.  This case resulted in us having to quarantine students in grades 1, 3 & 5.  Being that the children were already in school when we received this notice, we brought the children to their classrooms and called each parent asking them to pick up their child.

Yesterday, the district informed us of two possible cases of students in Pre-K, grade 4 – Chandler, and grade 6, which resulted in us quarantining students in Pre-K, grade 4 – Chandler, and grade 6.

This only leaves us with Kindergarten, grade 2, and one section of 4th grade in the elementary school, for in-person learning.

After a long conversation with the department of health, out of an abundance of caution, we decided that the entire elementary school will be put on virtual instruction starting tomorrow (3/19/21). Please see the return to school dates below.

Pre-K – Return on 3/29

K – Return on 3/26 (not quarantined)

1st – Return on 3/26

2nd – Return on 3/26 (not quarantined)

3rd – Return on 3/26

4th – Chandler, return on 3/29, Joyce – return on 3/26

5th – Return on 3/26

6th – Return on 3/26

At the Jr/Sr. High School, we had a case yesterday that impacted a couple of 7th grade students and most of our 8th grade students.

–  7th and 8th graders who were impacted will return on 3/26

– 9th to 12th grades will continue on as planned

If your child needs a laptop to take home for the week of virtual learning, please give your child’s school office a call to make arrangements for one.  Your child’s teacher and/or principal will be in touch with details in regards to virtual learning.  We truly appreciate your understanding and patience during this difficult time.  As you can see, COVID is still a risk in our community.  Stay vigilant and please let us know if your child is having any symptoms and/or tested positive for COVID-19.  Together we can help stop the spread.

Very Fondly,

Andrew Kourt
Superintendent of Schools
New Lebanon Central School District
