Competing against 19 teams, New Lebanon Jr./Sr High School took fourth place in the Future City Competition Regional Finals on January 11 at Proctors in Schenectady. They presented “Kaishi” – the virtual city they envisioned, designed and built using SimCity software.

The team of 20 seventh and eighth grades students were hard at working preparing for the competition’s theme “Tomorrow’s Transit: Design a Way to Move People In and Around Your City” since returning to school in the fall. The team was required to build a physical model of their city using recycled materials costing no more than $100. Student presenters at the competition were Keagan Carson, Dakota Kubli, and Lexie McLaughlin.

In addition to their 4th place overall win ($350), the team was awarded “Best Holistic City” ($100) and “Best Use of Complete Streets” ($100). Future Cities advisor Mary Beth Liles said the team will be taking a field trip to Boston Science Museum with the prize money.

“I am so incredibly proud of our students for all the hard work they did and the professionalism they showed when presenting their virtual city,” said Liles.
