JRSH Counseling Department Celebrates Student Identity

This past November, the JRSR Counseling Department created a social emotional learning (SEL) lesson for grades 7-12 on celebrating identity. This was also done in conjunction with the work being done within the Equity and Inclusivity Committee.

Through Mrs. Evans, Mrs. White and Ms. Cupp’s “Connexagon Activity”, students were given the tools to identify their own uniqueness, and discover how they connect to others in the building. Teachers and faculty members were also invited to create their own “connexagons” so they could participate in the activity. The completed connexagons were posted on the window in the cafeteria, proving that all students and adults in the JRSR are connected in one way or another. This lesson will be expanded upon in December when the Counseling Department talks more about human connection within their SEL curriculum.

A special thank you to WBH teachers, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. LaRue, and school psychologist, Mrs. Gebbie for your help in getting this activity up and running!
