Healthy Eating Month at WBH

Please see the letter below from Principal Andrew Kourt:

During the month of January, we are going to educate our school community on practicing healthy eating habits.

Throughout this month classroom teachers will teach lessons on nutrition and healthy eating, we will share regular healthy eating habits over the announcements, the children will taste test healthy food options in the cafeteria, and our Food Service Manager – Patty Metzler will visit classrooms to discuss our school lunch program and making healthy choices.

I also want to take this time to encourage families to send your child to school with a healthy snack and healthy lunch options. Please see the attached sheet for tips and recipe ideas.
Please take the time to review the attached items with your family:

1. The USDA’s “My Plate” recommendations (Similar to the old food pyramid)
2. Some quick snack recipes
3. Snack Tips for families

On the following dates our WBH kitchen staff will hold some healthy foods taste testing:

January 8th – Root Vegetable tasting
January 15th – Grain Salad tasting
January 22nd – Bean Dip tasting
January 29th – Smoothie tasting

We hope that this month’s focus will encourage us all to practice healthier and more nutritious eating habits not just throughout January but for years to come.

Fondly,
Andrew Kourt and the WBH Health and Wellness Team
