Author and Illustrator Mika Song Visits Walter B. Howard

Walter B. Howard Elementary School welcomed award-winning author and illustrator Mika Song for a special visit on Wednesday.

Mr. Hawkins, the school librarian, has been sharing Mika’s charming stories with students, including Norma and Belly, Henry’s Picture-Perfect Day, The Runaway Belly Button, and Picnic with Oliver. During her visit, Mika spent the day with students in pre-k through third grade, reading from her new book Night Chef and guiding students through drawing some of her characters. Students also worked together with Mika to create a short, collaborative story!

After the presentations, Mika joined a small group of enthusiastic third-grade readers for lunch, continuing conversations about books, art, and inspiration.

A heartfelt thank you to Mika Song for spending the day with our young readers and artists!

Check out photos from the visit, along with some of the projects our students created in preparation for her arrival!
