Please read for safety information recently shared with families by New Lebanon Junior/Senior High School Principal Matt Klafehn.

Dear Families:

We are writing to make you aware of reports we have received regarding an adult male who has been observed walking along the Route 20/22 corridor in the vicinity of the Junior/Senior High School. The individual is described as being in his 50s or 60s and is often seen carrying a basketball or soccer ball. Reports indicate that he may also be smoking or vaping while walking.

This morning, we have received information that this individual has approached at least one high school aged female student. While we are not aware of any criminal activity at this time, we believe it is important to share this information so families can have conversations with their children about personal safety.

We encourage students to:

– Avoid engaging in conversation with unfamiliar adults.

– Travel in groups whenever possible.

– Remain aware of their surroundings when walking to and from school or community activities.

– Report any uncomfortable or concerning interactions to a trusted adult immediately.

School administrators have been made aware of these reports and are communicating with local law enforcement. We will continue to monitor the situation and share additional information if necessary.

If your child has had any interaction with this individual or if you have information that may be helpful, please contact the school administration.

The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority. Thank you for your partnership in reinforcing safe practices with your children.

Sincerely,
Matt Klafehn, Principal
New Lebanon Junior/Senior High School
