Capital Project Phase One

Timeline of Completed Phase One Projects

Capital Project Phase One Update- 7/15/2021

Phase One of the $11,855,000 capital project approved by voters in May 2017 is now complete. The initial work consisted of a number of major facilities upgrades across the district, including renovating restrooms, replacing doors, door frames, and hardware, fire alarm upgrades, lighting improvements, a new secure entry vestibule and gymnasium at the elementary school, new flooring at the Jr./Sr. High School, complete rebuilding of the boys and girls locker rooms, HVAC upgrades at both schools and more.

Bids for the capital project work came in lower than expected, leaving funds available for additional projects. This unexpected funding is being spent on necessary structural and mechanical repairs at the Jr./Sr. High School and Elementary School. The work slated to be completed in Phase Two includes:

  • Repairing the second, non-functioning boiler at the Jr./Sr. High School and returning it to working condition. Repairing structural damage on the exterior wall of the Jr./Sr. High School outside the library
  • Converting one restroom at WBH to an exterior restroom for use during outdoor/community events which do not require access to the building.

The extra funding from the lower than expected bids for the original scope of work must be spent on capital improvements throughout the district – as that is what voters originally approved the expenditures for. The Phase Two work is expected to begin this month and be completed by November 2021.

“We are excited to be able to provide additional improvements to our school buildings beyond those planned in the original scope of work,” said Superintendent Andrew Kourt. “Our sincere thanks to our New Lebanon community for their continued support of our work to provide the best for our students.”
