On Wednesday, July 23, friends, family, students and former students gathered at the New Lebanon Jr/Sr high school to celebrate the career of Fred Ruhe and to dedicate the newly constructed softball field in his name.
Ruhe’s dedicated service to the district spans from 1960 to his retirement in 2005. He was an elementary school teacher, a curriculum coordinator, volleyball coach and softball coach.
New Lebanon CSD Superintendent Karen McGraw spoke about Ruhe’s dedicated career in the district and read a proclamation from the Board of Education that names the field “Ruhe Field.”
“Whereas, the New Lebanon Central School District’s coaching history will be forever linked to Fred Ruhe for his longstanding dedication to our students, “Coach Ruhe” has become a fixture in our athletic community and will be remembered for enriching the lives of countless student athletes who were fortunate to have benefited from his innovative teaching style and his deep commitment to excellence,” said McGraw.
