Meet – Meaghan Rogers, long-term substitute Jr/Sr High School Counselor

What is your education background?

I attended Siena College originally for Biology but quickly fell in love with Psychology. While at Siena I studied Psychology, Criminal Justice, and Theater- graduating with a BA in Psychology, minor in criminal justice, and certificate in theater. I then studied School Counseling at St. John’s University, graduating with a 3.91 GPA.

What is your background like – previous jobs?

I grew up on Long Island and moved to Pittsfield, MA five years ago. For four years, I worked as the school counselor of Albany Leadership Charter High School for Girls, an all-girls public charter high school that serves the Capital Region. Last year, I began working for the Berkshire South WIC program at CHP in Great Barrington as their community coordinator, serving to educate healthcare professionals, human service organizations, and the public about the WIC nutrition program. I am also a part time fitness instructor at Lenox Fit in Lenox, MA and an Elementary School Homework Playgroup Leader at CHP.

Tell us about your family?

I come from an Italian-Irish family, with my mother’s Italian side being significantly larger than my father’s. I am a fourth-generation Italian, with my great-grandfather immigrating to the United States from Naples, Italy in the early 1900s. My father’s side of the family was one of the founding families of Southampton, NY. My parents still live in the home I grew up and I have two older sisters and a younger brother. I currently live in Massachusetts with my husband and our two cats, Gandalf and Samus. I was introduced to New Lebanon by my husband’s mother, Dottie Rogers, who was a New Lebanon Jr/Sr High teacher for many years.

What are your interests outside of school?

Outside of school, my biggest hobbies are theater, fitness and the NFL. After studying theater at Siena, I have continued to perform at various theaters throughout the Capital District. I am currently in the Town Players of Pittsfield’s live production of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and I am a member of Ghent Playhouse’s Pantoloons who create and perform original comedies each year.

Fitness is a huge part of my life and I particularly love dance, weightlifting, and kickboxing, but I will try almost any exercise that doesn’t involve heights! I have always loved football and always give the guys in my fantasy league a run for their money. Go Giants!
