Jr/Sr High School hosts Memorial Day assembly

(May 22, 2015) On Friday, May 22, the New Lebanon Jr/Sr High School hosted its annual Memorial Day Assembly Program to honor the men and women who have served our country.

The program included the presentation of colors by the American Legion Post #1236 and the James E. Callahan Vietnam Veterans Chapter 65.

The choir performed “Amazing Grace” and “America,” with the assistance of several community members. The band performed “Armed Forces Salute,” during which several veterans proudly stood up from their seats. In addition, students Eva Weeks and Alex Miller sang the national anthem and Evan Burgess performed TAPS.

Bill Sturgin, a Vietnam veteran, spoke about the importance and significance of Memorial Day, reminding the audience to give thanks to those who answered the call of duty.

High school senior Sari Exley spoke about the often under recognized women who have served our country. The research was conducted by senior Lauren Stone.
In addition, several videos were shown and many veterans were specifically recognized by their family members in the audience.

Afterwards, a reception was hosted by Intro to Foods students.

Thank you to everyone who made this event a success, and thank you to those who have served or currently serve our country.
