Welcome Back Letter Principal Kourt

Dear Families,

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year!  I had the privilege of welcoming your child back to school today during our “Welcome Back Assembly” on Thursday,  September 6. During the ssembly we welcomed our new students and new faculty/staff, reviewed how to be mindful, talked about how we learn best, and reviewed our school expectations. At WBH our students are:  Respectful, Responsible, and Safe.

At the assembly we also discussed the New York State Dignity for All Students Act (DASA.)  This law protects all students from harassment, discrimination, and bullying. This state law states that no student shall be discriminated against based on his or her actual or perceived race, color, national origin, religion, ethnic group, gender identity, or biological sex.

As your school principal and DASA coordinator we take every accusation of harassment, discrimination, and bullying very seriously.  If your child shares any accusations with you please contact your child’s teacher or myself right away.  We take a lot of pride in our school community, and the last thing we want is for any child to feel uncomfortable at school.   I can promise you that we work very hard with our students to teach them kindness, empathy, patience, and to always make good choices.

I look forward to a fantastic school year and I am very excited to work with you and your child.  Remember my door is always open. Don’t ever hesitate to contact me at akourt@newlebanoncsd.org or call me at (518) 794-8554.  I hope to see you at our Welcome Back Picnic and Outdoor Movie Night (sponsored by our PTA) on Friday, September 14th at 6:30pm and at our Open House on Tuesday, September 18th at 6:30pm.

Fondly,

Andrew Kourt
WBH Principal
