WBH Elementary Principal October Update

Dear Families,

I hope you and your family are enjoying the fall season. It has been a fantastic fall at WBH.  As principal, I have the distinct pleasure of being able to visit all of our wonderful classrooms on a regular basis.  Everyday I get to see your children grow as readers and turn into writers.  Here at WBH we use the workshop approach to reading and writing.  This approach meets every child’s individual need and allows our students to have choice in choosing “just right” books and to choose topics of interest within specific writing genres.  To help your child become an even better reader, I encourage you to motivate your child to read at home on a regular basis.  Please talk to your child’s teacher about finding “just right books” for them to read at home.

As you know parent teacher conferences are coming up on Friday, October 26th and Friday, November 2nd.  These times are dedicated for you to meet with your child’s teacher.  If you do not have a time scheduled, contact your child’s teacher right away.

Here at WBH and New Lebanon, professional development for our teachers is always a top priority.  To ensure our teachers receive the most current professional development we have to schedule Superintendent Conference Days and sometimes early dismissal days.  Below are dates in which there is no school for either teacher professional development days, parent teacher conference days, or holidays:

Friday, October 26th – 11:45 dismissal – Parent Teacher Conferences
Friday, November 2nd – 11:45 dismissal – Parent Teacher Conferences

  • Tuesday, November 6th  – No School – Superintendent Conference day
  • Monday, November 12th – No School – Veterans day
  • Friday, November 16th – 15 Minute Emergency Early Release day
  • Wednesday, November 21st to 23rd – Thanksgiving Recess – No School

Our PTA has some wonderful events planned.  We hope you can join us at our annual “Trunk or Treat” event on Wednesday, October 31st at 5pm.  We are looking for families to set up their cars and to pass out candy.  Please call the office to add your name to our list.   Save the date – Grandparents/Special Friends Day will take place on Wednesday, November 14th – more info. coming soon!  Our annual readathon will take place on November 5th to November 16th – also more details coming home soon.

Thank you for your continued support.  Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.

Fondly,

Andrew Kourt
WBH Principal
