Library Policies and Procedures

Appropriate Uses of the Library:

You may use the library for quiet studying, checking out library materials, working on class assignments, doing school-related research, and leisure reading. An atmosphere conducive to learning will be maintained at all times. Be considerate by speaking softly so that others are not disturbed.

Inappropriate Uses of the Library:

You may not come to the library to socialize with your peers if it distracts others from their work. Misuse of library materials or equipment or disruptive behavior of any kind will result in the loss of library privileges.

Expectations:

  • Treat everyone with respect.
  • Ask for help. We are here to help you find the information you need. Please do not hesitate to ask questions. Even if we look busy with other work, our priority is to help you.
  • Work hard. Make effective use of your time.
  • Work quietly and be considerate to others. No loud talking.  If students are not part of a class, audio players (digital music players, CD players, etc.) may be used if kept at a reasonable volume.
  • Keep the library clean. Keep food and drinks away from books and computers.  Put your trash in a garbage can.
  • Be careful with library property. No leaning back on the chairs or writing on tables.
  • Save paper. Put any copy paper to be recycled in the box by the copier.

Circulation Policy:

  • Library books can be borrowed for 4 weeks at a time, and you may renew them if they are not needed by another student. Please return books to the book slot in the circulation desk.
  • If a student has any overdue library books, his or her school computer account will be shut down until the overdue materials are returned.
  • Reference books, magazines, and books on reserve may be borrowed from the library at the discretion of library staff.

Library Pass System:

You are welcome in the library at any time from 7:15am-2:30pm.  To use the library during study hall, get a pass from library staff before the beginning of the period.  Have your study hall teacher sign the pass, and present the pass to library staff when you return to the library.  You are expected to arrive during the first 5 minutes of the class period, and you must sign in and remain in the library for the entire period. If you are from an academic class, you must receive a pass from the library staff to return to that class.
