Announcements:

  • Student Lunch Survey
JSHS students have the opportunity to complete an online survey about our cafeteria offerings. We are interested in continuing to improve our menu and make it more appealing to our students.  We will have computers available in the cafeteria during the week of March 8 to enable students to complete the survey during lunch.  Students can also complete the survey right now by clicking on this link: JSHS Lunch Survey

  • NEW DATE !!  Wednesday March 10 -- Preparation for High School Info Night
This information night is intended for current 8th graders and their parents.  We will explain high school graduation requirements, the various diploma options that students may pursue and the course selection process. Additionally, we will explain the differences between high school and junior high academic expectations. 6:30 - 7:30 in the Cafeteria.

  • Tuesday, March 9, 6:00 PM, Winter Athletics Banquet
As with the fall banquet, dinner will be available at 6:00 pm. The cost of dinner will be $10. We will begin the ceremonies as soon as dinner has been served, so individuals who do not intend to eat should plan accordingly. The dinner will benefit the Yearbook and the Band. Athletes and their families may pre-purchase their dinners through their coaches.  Forms will be distributed soon.

  • Thursday, March 18, 6:00 PM, Spring Athletics Meet the Coaches Night
Each team will meet individually with its coach.  Parents are encouraged to attend.

  • Summer Driver's Education Class
New Lebanon Jr/Sr High School will offer driver's education this summer through our continuing education program.   We will post more information -- time of the classes and the cost for participation -- as it is available.  The course will be taught by Clint Garrigan.

  • Open Swim

    Monday and Wednesday 6:30pm -- 8:00pm
$3 per person or $5 for a family

  • 7th and 8th Grade Swim Classes
All junior high students will have a swim unit during their PE classes this year. Girls will need to have a one-piece suit or a tankini that covers the midriff. Boys must wear swim trunks. Cut-offs are not allowed in the pool.  We have several new girl's suits available for purchase at $25.  If you need a suit, you may contact Mr. Christiansen to find out if we have your daughter's size.

  • Student Charges to Cafeteria Lunch/Breakfast Accounts
Students who maintain an account with our cafeteria food service are allowed to "charge" several meals if payment into the account is late.  Written notice will be mailed home and the family will be contacted by phone when the account is $5 in arrears.  Once an account has gone into arrears, students will not be able to charge snacks or seconds to the account.  Students will not be able to charge any food when an account is in arrears by $10 or more.  Questions about your child's account, including the current balance, can be directed to the school cafeteria ext. 2014 or to the Food Service Director, Todd DiGrigoli, at 758-7575 ext 6005 or tdigrigo@ichabodcrane.org.

  • H1N1 Preparedness
The District receives regular updates from health officials to guide our practices with respect to reducing contagion.  Parents of any student who presents symptoms consistent with influenza (flu) will be contacted to pick up their child and bring him or her home. While students are awaiting their parent, the student will be requested to wear a surgical mask to reduce the possibility of contagion to others.
    • Letter to Parents about Swine Flu

UPDATE:  11/30/2009 -- Although our absentee rates have returned to normal, we are still maintaining our protocols to reduce contagion in the school.    Please review hygiene protocols with your child.  We have hand sanitizing stations throughout the school for student & faculty use.

    • Students who present with a fever in school will be sent home. Students with a fever need to remain home for 24 hours after the fever (100 degrees or higher) is no longer present without medication.

    • I will continue to post updates to our preparedness practices as they are available.

  • Student Physicals
All 7th graders and 10th graders must have a current physical exam on file in the Health Office. To be considered current, the exam must have been completed after 5/1/2009.   The District Health Appraisal Form is available on this webpage.  Please click on "Health Forms" (above) to access the form for your family physician.
  • SAT registration & ACT registration:
Several parents have asked about registering 11th graders for the SAT or ACT exams. While New Lebanon is not a testing site, the deadlines for test registration as well as test administration dates are listed in the orange District calendar. You can find out more about applying for these tests on the Guidance webpage.
  • Sports Physicals
In order to be eligible to attend practice or complete in athletics, students must have a current physical exam on file in the Health Office.  To be consider current for an athletic season, the exam has to be less than one year old.  The District Health Appraisal Form is available on this webpage.  Please click on "Health Forms" (above) to access the form for your family physician.
  • Free and Reduced Lunch
With tight budgets pinching most of us, I want to remind parents of the free and reduced price lunch (breakfast too!) program. The savings can be substantial, especially to families with more than one child in the district. If parents have any concern that a student's eligibility will in some way be identifiable, please don't be worried. The students who receive free or reduced meals simply punch in their code on the serving line key pad in the same manner as those students whose parents pre-pay for their meals. When going through the line, they are simply another student whose meal has already been paid for. You may apply at any time. If you would like the form mailed to you, please email me and I will see that we send it right out to you: lwhitcomb@newlebanoncsd.org
