Would you like access to your child's school information?
Parents now have electronic access to the school's records on their child's: progress reports, report cards, contact information, health information and discipline reports. To begin setting up your parent account, you must visit the Parent Portal website, https://esd-parentportal.neric.org . Once you are at the website, look in the blue rectangle for the words, "
First time Here? Click to create a new account." Follow the directions to set up your account. Once you have set up the account, you may come in at any time during the school day to see Sarah Roblez in the main office to have your account activated. Please bring a photo ID when you come to school. Once your account is activated, you can access information about your child through the Parent Portal at any time you choose.
Highlights from the Parent Handbook & Code of Conduct
The entire handbook is available by clicking on this link. I have selected excerpts from two topics that I would especially like to draw to your attention:
ATTENDANCE
Parents who wish to view their child’s attendance records electronically may set up a parent account on the parent portal of our student management system.
Students who are absent are responsible for contacting their teacher to access missed work.
Parents may request homework assignments from the office when your child will be absent for 2 or more days. When making a request, we ask the following:
- Request be called in by 9:00 a.m. to the Main Office - 518-794-7600
- Call the office at 1:30 to confirm that there is work for your child
- Pick-up your child’s work from the Main Office by 2:30 p.m.
There is no real way to make up for missed classroom instruction. While we encourage all families to plan vacations during school recesses, we realize that special opportunities may arise during the school year that require students to miss many days of class work. While teachers will make efforts to provide some work when notified of a planned absence, it is most likely that extended absences will affect your child’s grades. Excused absences are listed in the parent handbook.
DRESS CODE
The school Code of Conduct describes appropriate dress. Our most frequent infractions of the dress code are to the following rules:
- Clothing must cover all undergarments
- Midriffs must be covered
- No short shorts or short skirts – fingertip length is requested.
Specific areas of concern for girls have been extremely short and often tight shorts as well as visible bra straps with camisole tops. These tops require a another shirt to be worn as an additional layer. Under no circumstances should a student be sent to school in a strapless top. Areas of concern with boys have been sleeveless undershirts and low pants that expose underwear. Parents can avoid embarrassment to their children by monitoring the clothes worn to school.
We do not want to become the fashion police, but we will enforce these rules. Please help us and help your child by monitoring his or her dress for school.

- H1N1 Preparedness
The District receives regular updates from health officials to guide our practices with respect to reducing contagion. Parents of any student who presents symptoms consistent with influenza (flu) will be contacted to pick up their child and bring him or her home. While students are awaiting their parent, the student will be requested to wear a surgical mask to reduce the possibility of contagion to others.

- Student Physicals
All 7th graders and 10th graders must have a current physical exam on file in the Health Office. To be considered current, the exam must have been completed after 9/1/2010. The District Health Appraisal Form is available on this webpage. Please click on "Health Forms" (above) to access the form for your family physician.
- SAT registration & ACT registration:
Several parents have asked about registering 11th graders for the SAT or ACT exams. While New Lebanon is not a testing site, the deadlines for test registration as well as test administration dates are listed in the orange District calendar. You can find out more about applying for these tests on the Guidance webpage.
- Sports Physicals
In order to be eligible to attend practice or complete in athletics, students must have a current physical exam on file in the Health Office. To be consider current for an athletic season, the exam has to be less than one year old. The District Health Appraisal Form is available on this webpage. Please click on "Health Forms" (above) to access the form for your family physician.
- NYS Department of Health student weight report:
Pursuant to Education Law Sections 903 and 904, our district was selected to report Student Weight Status Category information from health certificates/appraisals submitted beginning with the 2009-10 school year for students in grades: pre-K, K, 2, 4, 7 & 10. This data is reported as an aggregate, meaning that individual student's name is not associated with the data. However, parents have the right to request that your child's data be excluded from our report. If you wish to exercise this right, please contact school nurse, Cheryle Rice at extension 2011 or by email at crice@newlebanoncsd.org.
- Free and Reduced Lunch
With tight budgets pinching most of us, I want to remind parents of the free and reduced price lunch (breakfast too!) program. The savings can be substantial, especially to families with more than one child in the district. If parents have any concern that a student's eligibility will in some way be identifiable, please don't be worried. The students who receive free or reduced meals simply punch in their code on the serving line key pad in the same manner as those students whose parents pre-pay for their meals. When going through the line, they are simply another student whose meal has already been paid for. You may apply at any time. If you would like the form mailed to you, please email me and I will see that we send it right out to you: lwhitcomb@newlebanoncsd.org
