Announcements

  • Lunch, breakfast and the end of the year:

Prestige Food Service, our lunch and breakfast provider, is preparing to close out their year. Parents and students are advised that students will not be able to charge meals beginning on June 1, 2009. If you prepay for meals, any amount remaining on your account will be carried over to next year. If students have any unpaid charges, parents will be receiving notification of the amount due early in June.

  • Attention students and parents: please submit photos for the 2010 yearbook! We especially need photos of the Variety Show, spring sports, and Prom 2009.

Go to https://images.jostens.com/login?user=400000460&pw=nltigers to upload photos. You may need to enter the following information:

    User name: 400000460

    Password: nltigers

Photos that are not in a digital format may be sent to New Lebanon Jr/Sr High School, 14665 State Route 22, New Lebanon, NY 12125, Attn:Yearbook.

If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Berens at kberens@newlebanoncsd.org

  • Maintenance work at the school:

Beginning on May 13, we will be repairing the parapet atop the front of the Jr/Sr High School.  You will see scaffolding and construction netting across much of the facade beginning on that date.  This work is necessary because the deteriorating parapet has allowed water to leak into the building.  The repair work will continue through the remainder of the year.  During this time, the center door -- the original girls entrance -- and much of the front sidewalk will not be accessible.

  • Letter to Parents about Swine Flu

  • Summer Employment Opportunities--

Workforce New York Career Center at Columbia-Greene Community College is recruiting youth ages 14-24 for placement in a summer job. Jobs will vary in hours worked per week and the number of total weeks, but everyone will be paid $7.25 an hour. The Summer Youth Employment & Training program is grant funded, and youth must meet income guidelines to qualify. There are a limited amount of employment opportunities available. Please contact Ms. Lynch in the Counseling and Career Center at 794-7600 x2008 for more information as soon as possible.

  • 7th and 8th Grade Arts in Education Experience --

Our 7th and 8th graders completed five weeks of Arts in Education instruction. The project, "Art-Science Fusion: Scale," is a cooperative venture between our faculty and the Capital Region Center for Arts in Education. The students have created original artwork accompanied by extensive written documentation of this valuable learning experience. The student work will be displayed throughout the cafeteria. Students will be on hand to provide additional information and descriptions of their experiences.

The project began with professional development for our junior high school faculty members in January. Holly May has been the lead teacher on this project, coordinating the interdisciplinary links and ensuring that students develop their expository writing skills throughout this unit. The students' work has been inspired by the art of polar biologist Sam Bowser. Dr. Bowser's art will also be on display for this installation. Local teaching artist, Chris Moran, has guided our students exploration of art, math, science and the concept of scale during 5 full-day visits to New Lebanon.

The final installation displayed our students' growing understanding of the links between art, science, mathematics and written expression. The public was invited to view this installation. The District thanks John Ransom Phillips, the Columbia County and NYC artist whose generosity has funded this important initiative.

  • Regents exams cancelled due to the 1/28 storm:
The students who were scheduled to take the second day of the Comprehensive English Regents Examination will be rescheduled to take that exam in June. The NY State Education Department allows no other alternative. However, the Day One exam will be scored. The NYSED has advised us that they will allow that partial administration of the exam to be available to students who qualify for a component retest if they do not pass the exam in June. When a similar situation occurred a few years back, NYSED did provide an additional administration of the examination in the spring for the benefit of seniors who need a passing test score to graduate. We will inform affected seniors if that opportunity is granted this year.

  • SAT registration:
Several parents have asked about registering 11th graders for the SAT. While New Lebanon is not a testing site, the deadlines for registration with the College Board as well as test administration dates are listed in the orange District calendar. You can find out more at the college board website, www.collegeboard.com (http://www.collegeboard.com). You may also contact our school counselor, Miss Jennifer Lynch (ext. 2008) if you have questions about these exams.
  • Free and Reduced Lunch

With tight budgets pinching most of us, I want to remind parents of the free and reduced price lunch (breakfast too!) program. The savings can be substantial, especially to families with more than one child in the district. If parents have any concern that a student's eligibility will in some way be identifiable, please don't be worried. The students who receive free or reduced meals are on the same list with students whose parents pre-pay for their meals. When going through the line, they are simply another student whose meal has already been paid for. You may apply at any time. If you would like the form mailed to you, please email me and I will see that we send it right out to you: lwhitcomb@newlebanoncsd.org

  • Some students are staying after school past 3:00. Students who stay after school are expected to be working with a teacher. The late bus leaves at 3:00. The only students who should be here past that time are athletes participating in a contest or a practice. There is no supervision available for other students. Students who are found wandering the halls will be brought to the main office where they will remain until a parent can pick them up. Students who would like to return to school to watch a game should go home at the end of the day and return to school when the game begins. This has been an issue mostly for 7th and 8th grade students. If you have any questions about after school supervision, please don't hesitate to call or email Ms. Whitcomb -- ext 2005, or lwhitcomb@newlebanoncsd.org.

  • School Store -- Parents may want to consider selecting a gift for their children from our school store. Mrs. Rogers, our family and consumer science teacher, runs the school store to support our Spirit Club. She invites you to email her at drogers@newlebanoncsd.org to find out about some of our products. The store stocks New Lebanon tees, sweatshirts, hats and other items with the school name. We hope to have a link to the school store, with photos of store items, available here soon.
