Welcome to all of you as you return from a summer of hot, sunny weather. The gardeners are harvesting their vegetables, families are planning the last long weekend of the summer and New Lebanon Central District is a flurry of activity as the finishing touches are put on the buildings and grounds in anticipation of classes beginning on September 7.
A lot of work on the facilities occurred this summer. This work keeps our buildings in excellent shape and provides a positive learning environment for our students. We were able to upgrade the electrical service at WBH, install new lockers on the second floor of the High School, paint a number of classrooms and corridors in the High School, establish a new computer lab at WBH, and replace flooring in three classrooms at the high school.
Another important summer accomplishment is hiring to replace those that left to retire or to move. No matter the position, finalists needed to accomplish a task to illustrate their suitability. For teachers this meant teaching a lesson. This performance task provides us a good glimpse into how the candidates will handle themselves. Hiring is one of the most important decisions we make. This year we welcome a new dispatcher at the bus garage, six new elementary teachers, and five new teachers at the Jr./Sr. High School. Additionally, we start the school year with a new elementary principal. We are fortunate that each of these people bring extraordinary talent and commitment to the service of our students.
One of the School Board’s goals is to ensure an appropriate educational environment that is constructive and welcoming. To that end, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher, building principal or me if you ever have a question or concern. Together we will ensure each student has a great year.
