The New Lebanon Community

The New Lebanon Central School District is located in the northeastern portion of Columbia County and the southeastern corner of Rensselaer County, bordering the Berkshire Mountains and the State of Massachusetts. The district consists of the town of New Lebanon and parts of the towns of Canaan, Stephentown, Chatham, and East Nassau, covering approximately 80 square miles. There are two school buildings, an elementary school serving Kindergarten through grade 6, and a junior-senior high school.

The District is approximately 20 minutes from Albany, New York and 15 minutes from Pittsfield, Massachusetts. We are situated nine miles from the Berkshire Spur of the NYS Thruway, with ready access to the Massachusetts Turnpike and Interstate 90. Boston and NYC are within 2 1/2 hours driving time and Montreal is approximately 4 1/2 hours.

Police protection is provided by the Columbia County Sheriff's Department, the Rensselaer County Sheriff's Department and supplemented by the New York State Police. Various volunteer organizations provide ambulance service and fire protection. Electricity is provided by New York State Electric and Gas Corporation and Niagara Mohawk Power corporation.

Many fine cultural and educational opportunities are available including: the Berkshire Music Festival at Tanglewood, summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra; the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, summer home of the New York City Ballet and the Philadelphia Philharmonic Orchestra; and six summer theaters. In addition, Brodie Mountain, Jiminy Peak and the Bosquet Ski areas are in the immediate vicinity. Area colleges include Williams College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, North Adams State College, Siena College, Russell Sage College and the University at Albany-State University of New York. A dozen hospitals provide medical services within the region.
