Winter Athletic Awards Ceremony Honors Athletes
New Lebanon CSD winter sports teams were honored on March 8 at the Winter Athletic Awards Ceremony. The event honored each team and its players for their outstanding efforts and their contribution to their team for the season.
Assistant Principal and Athletic Director, Matthew Klafehn, praised the coaches for their dedication and hard work. "I remain very proud of our young athletes and New Lebanon's athletic program. I am especially thrilled to be able to celebrate the Central Hudson Valley League Sportsmanship award achievement. Character education is an essential component of the high school experience. This award represents the hard work on the part of the entire school community; our students, their coaches, our teachers, our principals and our parents. It is nice to have the acknowledgement as evidence that our collective effort is paying off."
The varsity girls’ basketball team was honored for being a scholar athlete team and the varsity girls’ and boys’ basketball team both received the Sportsmanship Award for the Central Hudson Valley League.
Each coach spoke about their team and their season. They commended the players for their athleticism and overall improvement in their sport. Each coach acknowledged their most improved player and reflected on memories from the season.
The night ended with senior Kyle Trombley taking the stage and delivering the closing remarks. Of his years as a student athlete Trombley said, “I have learned that athletics and education go hand in hand.” Trombley will study at Hudson Valley Community College next year.
Dinner was provided for the attendees by Zucchini’s Restaurant, the class of 2017 and the cheerleading squad.
