Varsity Girls’ Basketball Team Recognized as Scholar Athlete Team

For the 2011-12 winter season, New Lebanon’s girls’ varsity basketball athletic team was named a scholar athlete team by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA). The honor is reserved for athletic teams who reach a high degree of academic success while balancing the rigors of a full extracurricular schedule.

In order to qualify as a scholar athlete team, the team must collectively hold a GPA of 90 or better with at least the minimum amount of students required by the NYSPHSAA. The minimum number of students required to meet this standard varies by the size of the team, but always represents a majority of the athletes on the team. Any team athlete with an 85 average or better is eligible. Each student whose average contributes to a team being designated a scholar athlete team receives a scholar athlete pin.

The team was recognized at the Winter Sports Award Banquet held March 8, along with their fellow winter sports teams. The girls will be invited to attend the April Board of Education meeting where they will be acknowledged by Assistant Principal and Athletic Director, Matthew Klafehn. Congratulations to the entire team!
